Happy birthday Upper Ross Medical Centre

Upper Ross Medical Centre Director, Mr Kevin Gillespie gives a few short words

Former Herbert MP Peter Lindsay joined the Upper Ross community in a toast to continued good health yesterday – Monday, August 30, 2010 – as the local medical centre celebrated its first birthday, 14,000 patient visits and the addition of a new GP.

The Upper Ross Medical Centre – which opened with just one doctor, one receptionist and a part-time nurse – has expanded rapidly over the last 12 months to provide the community with access to three doctors, a psychologist, a physiotherapist, two nurses and three receptionists.

According to Director of the Upper Ross Medical Centre, Mr Kevin Gillespie, the growth of the practice has allowed a four-fold increase in the number of patients it is able to provide important primary healthcare to.

“This time last year, our team was consulting up to 20 people a day – we are now providing healthcare advice to 80 people per day and expect this number to increase as we employ additional healthcare professionals,” said Mr Gillespie.

“As Townsville grows, residents are going to find it increasingly difficult to access primary healthcare unless family medical centres, such as ours, expand with the population.

“Our aim is to provide more doctors and allied health services so that people living in the Upper Ross don’t have to travel far from home for advice and treatment.”
